Frequently Asked Questions
Pelvic floor therapy is physical therapy for men and women who are suffering from disorders of the pelvic floor. These disorders can include bladder, bowel, sexual function, and pelvic pain as well as musculoskeletal or nerve injuries to the pelvic floor. A pelvic floor therapist is an orthopedic therapist who has had special training in the anatomy and physiology of the pelvis and how its contents (internal organs) relate to posture and everyday functions.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
In Pennsylvania you can see a physical therapist of your choice through Direct Access. That means you do not need a doctor’s referral. Many insurances may require a script to submit for out of network benefits or application towards an insurance deductible after 30 days of treatment.

At Pelvic Shanti, we believe in the value of one on one treatment sessions with our clients to achieve best outcomes.
Having a flat fee-for-service model, allows us to provide high-quality, custom care for your needs.
Payment is due at the time of service and Pelvic Shanti LLC will provide you with a detailed invoice at the end of each month for you to submit to your insurance company.
You are solely responsible for submitting your "superbill" and all corresponding claims to your insurance company.
Do you accept Medicare?
As a cash-based physical therapy practice, we are not a participating provider with Medicare. By law, we cannot provide skilled physical therapy services to Medicare patients at this time.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
Your first visit or initial evaluation will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Using the intake forms as our guide, we go through a comprehensive and thorough assessment of your history and symptoms. We will initiate an orthopedic evaluation of your overall body and function, observing your movement, strength, coordination and balance.
A pelvic floor internal examination is often one aspect of this exam, but only when you are ready. We can gather specific information regarding your pelvic floor that affects your symptoms.
Please wear comfortable clothes for your visit. We greatly appreciate that you fill out and bring with you the required intake forms.
You are welcome to attend with or without a friend or loved one.
